Hello there! I just hoped you could maybe answer a couple of questions of mine on growing salvia. Basically I am wondering how fast salvia grows from cuttings to say potting plant size? Also how much would you say a dried harvested salvia plant would weigh after say 2-3-4-5-6 months? Just anything really as an example. This is if I was growing indoors using grow lights.

Thanks

Dave

hi !

This question is not easy... but my plants(see at picture galary & showcase) give me appr. 300gr of dried leafs in one year, one plant (outdoorgrowing). so i think you get more... but is it not expensive to use lamps for salvia divinorum?

I never keep track but in best conditions a Healthy LARGE Salvia Plant can add from 1/8th to 1/4 of an inch a Day to it's height.

The Smaller the Plant the more slowly it grows.

Once a Plant gets this many leaves and gets this big it will grow very rapidly!

Best of Luck Growing!

No: Salvia Divinorum doesn't need fancy grow lights. Salvia Likes regular old florescent Lamps the Cheap kind.

http://www.sagewisdom.org/valdes87.html

This is how they grew it in Michigan:

QUOTE
freshly outfitted with incandescent (93W) and cool white VHO fluorescent bulbs. Eleven plants from each of the three sources were divided between the two chambers. Plant-top light-intensity varied from 2,800-3,300 ft-c, depending on plant height and the chamber involved.

Ordinary Lights - don't buy any fancy lights. Those are for Cannabis.

I Did some measurements about that. I have ideal growing conditions.
This 'baby' plant was barely 4 months old when I named her "Sally" and gave her a 10" pot (And Measured her):

Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200705/20070524sallyis26inches.jpg
She was 26 inches high (66 cm) and she had a Lovely leaf a foot long (30 cm) ...

Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200705/20070524footlongleaf.jpg
These two pictures were taken May 24th 2007.

3 Weeks later (June 13th - 4 days ago) I measured "Sally" again.

Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200706/20070613sallyis41inches.jpg

The SAME PLANT (The one on the left with measuring tape against it) 3 weeks Later is now 41 Inches tall (105 cm)!

And she has even bigger leaves now at (34 cm) thirteen inches:
Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200706/20070613leaf13incheslong.jpg

In 21 days this plant grew fifteen inches! mrgreen.gif That is ALMOST 2 centimeters (Or 2/3 Inch) PER DAY!!!!

NOW I know for SURE that my plants DO grow from a quarter to a half an inch a day and it's NOT my imagination!

Plant Pictures from San Diego, CA (USA)

Plants are outdoors all year around. (Of Course: there is no room inside for something as large as Calvin rolleyes.gif ) We seldom have frost. Maybe once every 20 years? Lots of very strong summer SUN reflected from surrounding buildings (Plant is under a tarp as an Umbrella). Add Miracle-Gro every 4th watering. They never stop growing, but in Summer they grow VERY Fast!

I have plants less than 6 months old that are 5 feet tall!
Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200707/20070712measuringbabies.gif

Note some leaves are football sized!

Bild: http://sageseeds.info/tutorials/peekaboo.gif

Calvin is a "Poster Child" for Miracle-Gro Fertilizer ...

And the Other Garden on the other side of the building is doing well also

aaaarghrgrh.... I wish our weather would be as good to grow Salvia as it is in southern California ~_~ ... on the other hand, I wouldn't survive... everything over 30°C makes me melt.... Northern California, Oregon and Washington are nice though ... *dreamdream*

Sally didn't stop growing.

I took another Picture and measured her again.

Sally was born on Jan 31st this year: she is not quite 7 months old.

Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200708/20070821sallyis78inchestall.jpg

Now she is (As of August 21st) 78 inches (2 Meters) tall! Sally is growing a foot a month!

I can look up her skirt now ...
