SALVIA-COMMUNITY.net _ International _ How Large Can Potted Salvia Plants Grow?

Geschrieben von: Sea Mac May 22 2007, 18:34

How large can potted Salvia plants grow? I'm curious ...

I have a plant that is 25 months old in a 24" diameter plastic pot.
Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200705/20070512carlandcalvin.jpg
I call him "Calvin" and he's SUCH a dear plant to me. I love him and talk to him every day.

Here's another view of us and a few of the 'baby plants' sheltering under him:
Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200705/20070512calvinandcarl.jpg
Is this big? I thought he had a lot of growing to do yet! He is only 6 feet tall and I understand 10 feet is possible!

Until somebody posts a picture of a larger plant I'm going to start calling him "The largest Salvia divinorum plant in captivity".

And if you want to see his 'baby pictures' of when he was 'just a little stick' go here:

How large have YOUR potted Salvia plants gotten?

This plant had a little more than 2 meters:

Bild: http://img489.imageshack.us/img489/8119/cimg17075yh.jpg

But the pot was much too large and filled with slimy soil. wink.gif
Now I have many 2m-Plants in 12cm-pots. The solution are only soilless mixtures with hydroponics.

Will he stop growing then?

The plastic stake that came in his mothers pot said "Six to Ten feet tall". and he is only 6 feet tall.

I think he will grow bigger until his roots fill up the pot he is in now then maybe he will slow down or stop.

Bigger maybe 8 feet tall or even Ten.

We will see, won't we.

HOGIE! You had a NICE Sized TREE! Perhaps the biggest that ever grew in Germany! I am VERY Impressed!

@Sea Mac: Your wonderful climate is really perfect for salvia growing outdoors. Always warm and sunny, never too hot and air humidity always >60% success.gif

So, how much bigger will these dozen trees get then?

Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200704/20070425northgarden01.jpg

They are on the north side of the building! Will they get as big as the tree on the east side of the building?

Geschrieben von: dARK_gRIFFON May 24 2007, 07:32

Why do you ask us? You are the good Salvia grower!^^

I think that depens on the size of the pot and the nutrients in it...

How old is this plant, and how big is it?

Your plants are huge, how many kilos of leafs can you pick in a year?

I have nice growing weather.

I never pick leaves. I wouldn't want something to come along and pick a part off of ME so I never like to do this to other creatures. (I'm Crazy).

I wait until the plant is done with it and throws it away. I seldom bother to pick up the leaves from the Ground anymore.

Miracle-Gro and LOTS of Love!

This Plant is 25 months old and 6 feet tall ...

I couldn't trust my eyes so today I took a Tape measure out to measure a 4 month old 'Baby Plant'.

I've repotted this Plant this evening and She is named "Sally" now ...

Before I repotted Sally she measured 26" (66 cm) tall (she was root bound, in an 8" pot, poor baby):
Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200705/20070524sallyis26inches.jpg

Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200705/20070524footlongleaf.jpg

I measured a leaf at 12" (30 cm) from stem to end ...

Salvia's Leaves CAN reach a Foot long (Rarely)!

Some sort of Record setting leaf there ...

Hmm, I've had a few leaves that size... some were even a lot larger - i usually measure the leaves not from the stem but from where the point were the actual leaf beginns ... and measuring like that i've had leaves with 32 to 36 cm dry.gif
The size of that plant (calvin?) is a record Oo *admire*

Yes. I KNOW everyone's leaves must be bigger that those. That 26 inch (66 cm) plant was root bound in an 8 inch pot when those pictures were taken. It's been re-potted since then and will grow again now.

The plant needs leaves to make more of the parts of the plant. The plant usually only tosses away leaves after the branch sprouting out above it has started growing out and has small leaves on it. If you take a leaf off before the Plant is done with it then you are robbing your plant of growing just that little bit faster that it would have grown if you had left it alone. The plant will throw it away when it is done with it: then it is safe to desire to smoke/chew it.

I haven't smoked Salvia in a long time now. I'm almost immune to it at this point.

You cannot see the pot he is in because the little plants have grown up around him now. And "Sally" grew 15 inches in 21 days ...

No. That Plant cannot hold it's weight up. No Salvia divinorum plant grows much taller than two meters in the wild be cause it falls over, or breaks off a piece and throws it down in the mud! Salvia is like Celery stalks in softness but does not have the strings inside it like Celery does. Salvia's branches bend down or flip over when they get long. All Salvia Stems and Branches are hollow, and they are very flexible when they are young and tender.

Typically the plant grows until it is too tall and when the wind blows the whole stem falls over on it's side into the mud and, over the next several weeks, EACH Node puts roots down and a new stem up: creating an instant hedge of Salvia.

Each Plant has at least a Bamboo Stick to hold it up: Calvin has dozens of 6 foot bamboo tomato stakes and 6 feet "Steel Cored Stakes", and one 8 foot high pole to lean on. He would have thrown away 3 foot long branches a year ago if I didn't support him! If I pulled all the poles out of his pot he would collapse into a tangled stack of very long cuttings right away.

mrgreen.gif

"i wonder how you keep your plants clean from aphids and stuff ... "

I buy bags of Ladybugs and pour them out on my plants: I also bought a Mantis egg case and last week a hundred baby preying Mantis came out to walk all over my trees and eat up every other bug on them! (Pictures soon!)

But, I can't keep them clean: all I can do is put more bugs on them. They Had Aphids on them last time I looked. But all the new Praying Mantis shall grow fat upon the aphids and Spider Mites soon.

But I don't CARE if Ladybugs or Praying Mantis stroll up and down all over all my trees. In fact I'm rooting for them!

As far as I know, yes. Salvia needs LOTS of room for her roots if you want her to grow that big.

The only things I'm doing .... A BIG enough Pot / No Peat Moss in the Soil Mix / Support poles to tie to / Plenty of Sunshine and Time and Water / And Miracle-Gro fertilizer a couple of times a month.

I DO grow them my own special way: I talk to them. I SUSPECT that the Same thing is Happening in my Garden as what Happened in Findhorn Bay Gardens in the Mid 1960s: http://www.findhorn.org/about_us/display_new.php#anchor-garden somehow they grew the most giant fruits and herbs and Vegetables ... 42 pound Cabbages! I'm just doing this with whatever plants I have at hand (And it was Salvia that first responded to it).

http://www.findhorn.org/whatwedo/vision/cocreation.php

"Co-creation with nature

Eileen and Peter Caddy and Dorothy Maclean all followed a disciplined spiritual practice for many years before they came to live at Findhorn, and they continued their regular meditation times when they came to live at the caravan park.

In May, 1963 Dorothy Maclean received an insight from within as she meditated:

. . . The forces of nature are something to be felt into, to be reached out to. One of the jobs for you as my free child is to sense the Nature forces such as the wind, to perceive its essence and purpose for me, and to be positive and harmonise with that essence.

When Dorothy shared this insight with Peter, his idea was to apply to their fledgling garden what Dorothy learned from the forces of nature. Dorothy then received this insight:

Yes, you can cooperate in the garden. Begin by thinking about the nature spirits, the higher overlighting nature spirits, and tune into them. That will be so unusual as to draw their interest here. They will be overjoyed to find some members of the human race eager for their help. "

There: that is the Magick I AM using! I Talk to my Plants and then I LISTEN to what they SAY ...

Of Course, you have to be Spiritually attuned (Or Crazy) to do this: but Everyone can Practice at it.

Or maybe it's the Miracle-Gro ... you decide. I think that EVERYONE can use 'love magick' to grow GIANT Plants!

Hi all!

It's been a few months.

They didn't stop growing.

Sally and Sammy are over 8 feet tall now: they are exactly 8 months and 3 days old now!

Here:
Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200710/20071002sam.gif
(View from the side looking North)
Sammy is way out of my reach! He was born on Jan. 31st 2007 and 8 months later (Feb. - Sept.) needs repotting.

I'm planning on getting all those 10" branches he's covered with off of him today - as cuttings.

Then, when he's had a haircut, I'll try to move him from a 12" pot to a 16" pot. I'm going to wrestle a shrub taller than me and hope I don't hurt him.

I'm dwarfed by large healthy Salvia shrubs! (View from the front looking West)
Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200710/20071002eastgarden.gif
Calvin grew into the tarp over him and got broken. There is a branch leaning against the wall up there and he's going for the gap between the tarp and the wall! He plans to colonize the roof area "Above the Jungle Canopy" with dozens of branches!

Sneaky GIANT Plant!

Namaste, friends!

Hey Sea Mac,
Do you mind if I email you at your gmail email address, for tips on how you care for your plants (soil changes/fertilizers/sunlight/etc, standard growing questions)?
Also, any information on the rare seedings would be fantastic to know about. I know if I ever got seeds from my divinorum plant I really wouldn't know what to do with them. tongue.gif. (actually, never mind on the seeding information, I just thoroughly read and understood your seeding webpage!)

If there were no pictures, I wouldn't be able to believe that plants of this height existed anywhere in the world, no matter what climate they lived in. I suppose the Mazatec people of Oaxaca themselves would be impressed if they saw what SeaMac has achieved here.
I'm sure you love your plants, Sea Mac, but they seem to be loving you a lot as well, since they keep growing so rapidly. I was just wondering why you kept all of them in their flower-pots, since I suppose in your climate it wouldn't be a problem to put them in the ground and leave them there during the winter without taking a risk to lose any of them due to frost?

If we didn't have such cold winters here in Germany, I would attempt to raise a whole forest of salvia trees here - and in the summer I would be sitting in their shade with my friends, smoking the leaves or chewing them, like the Mazatec do! laugh.gif

If we didn't have such cold winters here in Germany, I would attempt to raise a whole forest of salvia trees here - and in the summer I would be sitting in their shade with my friends, smoking the leaves or chewing them, like the Mazatec do!  laugh.gif

Because I rent: I don't own the land.

If I have to move these plants will move with me. (I hope. I'll rent a crane ...)

If I owned land they would be planted: then they would have grown even faster!

When I post plant measurements I always measure from the top of the dirt in the pot: never from the pot bottom. That would add 2 feet to Calvin and 1 foot to several plants.

Be that as it may be: the pipe sticking out of the wall is at 9 feet above the cement. Calvin is in a 24" tall/ 24" wide pot. His pot is on a metal trivet about 3 inches above ground. A couple of branches are a foot or 2 above that pipe. Below find 3 different views of the SAME Exact plants TONIGHT ...

YOU figure out How big he is.

70 degrees F/ 21 degrees C is Ideal for setting seeds. Jupe got some last January in cooler temperatures than that.

If you hold still they will be curious.

They don't get to look at people 'close up' any more than we get to look closely at them.

I've seen photos of people hand feeding hummingbirds before. Let me see if I can find and post a few of those.

A really hungry hummingbird doesn't care how many giants it must step on to be fed.

You MUST hold STILL so as not to scare them.

I must say, im still very astonished by your care tending skills, and your respect for these plants.

I am a failed farmer, first time ever growing anything, and it didn't turn out to good, I really badly burned my plants, one I don't think is recoverable. It's been a few months, and one is just starting to grow leaves again.

The only successful growers I know use sunlight, but It's winter time here, and we get very little sunlight, and the window sills are just too cold for the plants.

I use flourescent lighting, a fan, and a 13 hour timer to keep the plants at 'full' growth potential. Any lighting advice? I use a multipurpose soil, part mulch to allow for a successful water drain.

Anyone recommend any advice? I've read all the growers manuals numerous times over through various websites, but im not satisfied, Im very much so jealous of sea mac sad.gif and I marvel at his wonderful creations. I wish my plants could look like that. I've been growing my plants since September, and they haven't much progressed, I think they are still recovering from that nutrition burn.

I think I killed the thread with my little remorse there tongue.gif.

Sorry about it tongue.gif.

Also, anyone name any good lighting or anything? seems that my plant rooted new roots because the other ones weren't supplying sufficient enough nutrients and such, due to nute burn.
Other soil was molded too, 48 hours and the surface was covered with a chalk like resin that seemed to be on top of the dirt.
So I got new soil, and transplanted them biggrin.gif.

But I still need some names of some high quality lights that you guys use!

Flight Gear is an Open Source FREE Flight Simulator! Windows / Mac OS X / LINUX / BSD / Solaris / SGI Systems (That's MOST of YOU!)

quote:Want to have a free flight? Take FlightGear!

        Yet Another Flight Simulator?

Did you ever want to fly a plane yourself, but lacked the money or ability to do so? Are you a real pilot looking to improve your skills without having to take off? Do you want to try some dangerous maneuvers without risking your life? Or do you just want to have fun with a more serious game without any violence? If any of these questions apply to you, PC flight simulators are just for you.

You may already have some experience using Microsoft’s © Flight Simulator or any other of the commercially available PC flight simulators. As the price tag of those is usually within the $50 range, buying one of them should not be a serious problem given that running any serious PC flight simulator requires PC hardware within the $1500 range, despite dropping prices.

With so many commercially available flight simulators, why would we spend thousands of hours of programming and design work to build a free flight simulator? Well, there are many reasons, but here are the major ones:

        * All of the commercial simulators have a serious drawback: they are made by a small group of developers defining their properties according to what is important to them and providing limited interfaces to end users. Anyone who has ever tried to contact a commercial developer would agree that getting your voice heard in that environment is a major challenge. In contrast, FlightGear is designed by the people and for the people with everything out in the open.

        * Commercial simulators are usually a compromise of features and usability. Most commercial developers want to be able to serve a broad segment of the population, including serious pilots, beginners, and even casual gamers. In reality the result is always a compromise due to deadlines and funding. As FlightGear is free and open, there is no need for such a compromise. We have no publisher breathing down our necks, and we’re all volunteers that make our own deadlines. We are also at liberty to support markets that no commercial developer would consider viable, like the scientific research community.

        * Due to their closed-source nature, commercial simulators keep developers with excellent ideas and skills from contributing to the products. With FlightGear, developers of all skill levels and ideas have the potential to make a huge impact on the project. Contributing to a project as large and complex as FlightGear is very rewarding and provides the developers with a great deal of pride in knowing that we are shaping the future of a great simulator.

        * Beyond everything else, it’s just plain fun! I suppose you could compare us to real pilots that build kit-planes or scratch-builts. Sure, we can go out a buy a pre-built aircraft, but there’s just something special about building one yourself.

The points mentioned above form the basis of why we created FlightGear. With those motivations in mind, we have set out to create a high-quality flight simulator that aims to be a civilian, multi-platform, open, user-supported, and user-extensible platform. Let us take a closer look at each of these characteristics:

        * Civilian: The project is primarily aimed at civilian flight simulation. It should be appropriate for simulating general aviation as well as civilian aircraft. Our long-term goal is to have FlightGear FAA-approved as a flight training device. To the disappointment of some users, it is currently not a combat simulator; however, these features are not explicitly excluded. We just have not had a developer that was seriously interested in systems necessary for combat simulation.

        * Multi-platform: The developers are attempting to keep the code as platform-independent as possible. This is based on their observation that people interested in flight simulations run quite a variety of computer hardware and operating systems. The present code supports the following Operating Systems:

o Linux (any distribution and platform),
        o Windows NT/2000/XP (Intel/AMD platform),
        o Windows 95/98/ME,
        o BSD UNIX,
        o SGI IRIX,
        o Sun-OS,
        o Macintosh.

At present, there is no known flight simulator – commercial or free – supporting such a broad range of platforms.

        * Open: The project is not restricted to a static or elite cadre of developers. Anyone who feels they are able to contribute is most welcome. The code (including documentation) is copyrighted under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).

The GPL is often misunderstood. In simple terms it states that you can copy and freely distribute the program(s) so licensed. You can modify them if you like and even charge as much money as want to for the distribution of the modified or original program. However, you must freely provide the entire source code to anyone who wants it, and it must retain the original copyrights. In short:

”You can do anything with the software except make it non-free”.

The full text of the GPL can be obtained from the FlightGear source code or from

        http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html.

        * User-supported and user-extensible: Unlike most commercial simulators, FlightGear’s scenery and aircraft formats, internal variables, APIs, and everything else are user accessible and documented from the beginning. Even without any explicit development documentation (which naturally has to be written at some point), one can always go to the source code to see how something works. It is the goal of the developers to build a basic engine to which scenery designers, panel engineers, maybe adventure or ATC routine writers, sound artists, and others can build upon. It is our hope that the project, including the developers and end users, will benefit from the creativity and ideas of the hundreds of talented “simmers” around the world.

Without doubt, the success of the Linux project, initiated by Linus Torvalds, inspired several of the developers. Not only has Linux shown that distributed development of highly sophisticated software projects over the Internet is possible, it has also proven that such an effort can surpass the level of quality of competing commercial products.

Notice that the 3 central plants are 1 year and 2 days old: see how tall above that 6 foot fence they are growing? Sweetie (Sw003) near my elbow, Sally (Sw004) I'm climbing, and Sammy (Sw005) left of sweetie in the corner of the wooden fence, were all cut from Calvin (C3) on the evening of Jan 31st 2007. They were helpless little sticks - I raised them all from little sticks! Part of Calvin can be seen on the right side ... mrgreen.gif

I Measured Sally at 8 feet above dirt level in her first year of Growth: TEN Feet tall Above the sidewalk! Everyone bets that these plants will stop growing taller eventually but notice you can't see all of Sally's top ....

They will grow as tall as the support poles I tie them to. If I could find 16 foot poles to tie them to they would be that high by next winter.

Concerned campaigning here in California DID make a Difference! The bills sponsor (Assemblyman Adams) apparently read the opposition letters and did the research. There will be many medicines in the future made from what Salvia can teach us about the human brain.

The bills sponsor Changed the text of the bill to make it like Maine's LD66: It shall be a Misdemeanor to sell Salvia to Minors. We need more responsible legislators like Assemblyman Adams who actually DO the Research and act to make responsible laws! The bill adds section 379 to the penal code and it's about half way through the process of becoming law.

I think if the government does try to ban it there will be too much research proving it not dangerous or addictive by then. Your government decided not to look at the research by pretending it doesn't exist. I sorrow for German freedoms ...

I hadnt enough time to read the whole thread, so pls apologize if this question may has been answered before.

Do you grow any other psychoactive plants than Salvia D.?
And do u actually even use it, or is Salvia D. just another botanical fosterling in your green collection? wink.gif

San Pedro and Morning Glories.

I haven't used those. I seldom use Salvia anymore ... but I enjoy mild effects. I cannot (yet) get "Out Of Body" (OOB) experiences with it. I'm considered by most to be Very "Hardheaded"

Time for another update ...

I found out that the US DEA thinks Salvia Divinorum plants are scrawny little knee high sticks ... mrgreen.gif

Bild: http://www.salviasource.org/images/gallery/1538.jpg
You see? People are twice as tall as Salvia plants (Whether potted or planted): our illustrious government, in its immense wisdom, has said so!

mrgreen.gif Oh yeah?

Bild: http://seamac.info/cupboard/garage/garden/200804/20080417wide.gif
I beg to differ. Potted or planted Salvia plants will grow as TALL As You support their stems to: and then flop outwards from that point.

The plant is rubber like a hose: Suppose you grew a hose plant next to a flagpole? As long as you tied the hose to the flagpole every foot up its length, as it grew, it wouldn't want to stop at all! 4 feet over the top of the flagpole the plant would bend outward from the top ....

I answered the question I asked to start this topic with. But I don't have a mile high flagpole next to my favorite hose plant so they'll HAVE To stop SOMEWHERE ... Probably when they reach the roof.

Look up at the roof ...

I am always amazed at your wonderful growing capability.
The DEA is as corrupt or more so than the illicit drug dealers. They like to make things up.
Lets all move to Canada, I hear they have amazing non-analogue laws. Something tells me that the Feds, are going to schedule it the same as mescaline and such.

You should see some of the sick plants in my yard!

Bild: http://www.salviasource.org/images/gallery/2057.jpg
What WERE 7 foot trees are piles of dead Square sticks now. The remains of Iggy, and Caleb, and Isabel are dried dead skeletons in my yard: Lest you think I have 10 green thumbs!

Normally you only get to see my garden successes: But I've Killed as many as I've raised.

Mostly now I grow for fun: I chew up a BIG Bundle of HUGE Leaves only rarely.

My plants KNOW they are safe from me walking up to them and suddenly tearing something off of them. There is a CARPET of dead Salvia leaves lying on the ground! I love them SO Much I beg them for cuttings with tears in my eyes!

But all over the Yard are dead giant Salvia Divinorum trees ... But new ones start up and grow into giants and die in their turns: It's a circle of life kind of thing!

(Pay no attention to that man behind ... Errrr ... those dead trees in the side yard: the great OZ has spoken!)

You ONLY See the Plants that are my best successes and you NEVER see my failures so your opinion of my gardening skills must be unrealistic! I have plants that get sick and die just like YOUR Plants do. It's just that I have VERY Bright sun conditions and plants grow Very VERY Fast: so I have a LOT of them going giant at any given time!

But, no: If you lived in San Diego people would be admiring YOUR Plants Too! I'm just Lucky that I happen to live in an area that Salvia will tolerate growing in the native conditions. (It's a bit too hot and dry for this plant here.)

I'm not really a good gardener: I'm just a lucky humbug who LOVES this Plant Very MUCH!

P.S. Does anyone know if a watering device is good for salvia? I know that you leave a few days in between waterings, but if I leave, I won't have any means of watering my plants, and im sure people will forget.

Hey: I'm not dead yet. angel.png

A lot has happened since I last Wrote here.

A Short summary:
My garden was lost (all but 1 plant) when the cruel landlord (who was robbing me for years) gave me 60 days notice to move out.

I was blessed to find a new house at which I could start over. A year ago I started over.

A Friend left 2 'Blosser' strain plants in my care 'for safekeeping'. I named them "Dearie" and "Darling".

The 'Aquarian' strain plant grew back from a dead looking root ball in the Old pot. Only Survivor of Old Garden. sad.gif His name is "American". Other "baby" plants have Serial Codes and Birth Times on their pots but haven't taken names for themselves yet.

So, now we have a new location to grow in. And, Somehow, I have gotten these plants to behave crazily again. mrgreen.gif

First: you can easily get seeds from Salvia plants. The HARD Trick is getting them to flower.

I knew this. So I placed a 10 foot 'wall' (with a 'roof') of Black Tarpaulins around the garden area this fall. Then I put the 2 BIG 'Blosser' plants back in the dark to grow.

Here on the Southern California coast the winter temps are in the 50's at Night and 60's in the Daytime. Tropical Plants grow everywhere in my neighborhood: Datura/Bananas/Dagga/Plantains/Salvia ... Never gets down to freezing on the Coast! (It does inland though)

My plants grow quickly every day: and then sleep well at night. Don't think I would like to grow 8' tall plants indoors ....

Indoor with good lighting (and sticks supporting stems) you can get plants 1 to 2 meters tall - nothing wrong with THAT!

By setting the lights to 11 hours light and 13 hours dark your plants will bloom whatever the season!

There ARE advantages to indoor growing!

Hi! Thank You.

Yes, I think I shall have a few flowers this year .... and perhaps some seeds also.

I estimated about 5,000+ flowers will fall off these plants in the next 5 months. I might try to make PERFUME with them ....

I guess that makes me Crazy. That, or the fact that I believe that The Second Coming of Jesus is coming up on Christmas Day 2013 rolleyes.gif - one or the other of those 2 makes me "Crazy" mrgreen.gif

I thank you ... but my precious plant "American" did almost all of the work! I just pollinated. I think there were a couple more seeds inside the dried up calyx - there might have been a total of 4 seeds! Mr. Siebert (the world renowned Salvia expert) in Santa Barbara will get them tomorrow.

Salvia divinorum DOES set seeds IF you can coax her to bloom. Most people's plants do not bloom because they are near a window/or street light/or security lights. If your plants are under your living room window they will stay up late and watch TV, or Party, with you and the gang. Plants that stay up late and party (or watch TV) NEVER want to bloom. mrgreen.gif

There are hundreds of flowers on those other 2 plants: and I need to TRY to pollinate as many as I can reach as often as I can. Seeds readily set: but not all make it to full size and color and maturity. I'm going to TRY for quite a few more seeds before Spring. This is the second time I have shipped Salvia seeds to Mr. Daniel Siebert ... the last time was 6 years ago. Here is a perfect chance to diversify the species with new strains - I need to do my very best now.

I know the signs the plant shows me and can tell from the outline of the base of the calyx IF nutlets are swelling up inside there! I know by looking from the outside, and don't need to see Up Inside, to know there are seeds forming. There's a certain "Look" to pregnant calicies .... biggrin.gif

From Now on, when I SEE that specific swelling: I'm going to carefully slide the opened end of a 5/8" square Ziploc baggie over the calyx (to protect it from that seed eating bird). It will make finding them much easier if the calyx falls off the plant.

See? I told you nice people I'd keep you informed. And this group is among the first in the world to be informed that Sea Mac did it again 6 years later!

(So my getting seeds 6 years ago wasn't a 1-shot fluke: I've got the secrets to getting seeds and published them at http://sageseeds.info for every one to follow.)

Mr. Siebert wrote me a week or two ago. He received the 3 seeds: and none of them germinated for him.

And now for more recent Photos:
Baw002, here, had the largest leaf ....

I tried Measuring it ON THE Plant:

But it wasn't until I removed it for wrapping that I got a glimpse of what a happy Salvia plant does:

(14 Inches active solar collection surface! Sun of a beech: that's some record holder there!)

I mailed a few leaves to somebody - to chew up:

One of Several Bundles Shipped:
