Is it really possible that https://www.trufflemagic.com/blog/psilocybe-serbica/ helps you to quit smoking. I dont really know its this is true but this just came in to me. I've read a strange article that says mushrooms helps you to quit smoking but i forgot where that article is now. I just want to ask you guys if you ever tried using mushrooms yourself? Thanks!
I cannot confirm.
For me is start of a trip linked in the mind with cigarettes and in this moment to renounce is not nice for me. Also even today.
Maybe micodosing is a help.
No, i can´t imagine. The chemistry of the substances is too different to match with the receptors in our brain. Magic mushrooms are not really suitable to substitute cigarettes.
I think to reduce withdrawl symptoms (thank you Pons ) microdosing is worth an attempt.
Certainly as alternative to other antidepressants .
Maybe you refer to this study: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/media/releases/magic_mushrooms_help_longtime_smokers_quit
They used psilocybin within the context of a cognitive behavioural therapy for quitting smoking.
So it's not like "I can eat a mushroom and I will never have the desire to smoke a cigarette again", but the enhanced state of consciousness under psilocybin is made use of by the therapist for helping the patient to gain a deep motivation to change his smoking habits.
As psilocybin gives access to the subconscious, changes can be made at this level, which can be much more effective than just at a conscious level (when subconsciously the desire for cigarettes remains).
I think this is is brainwashing
Psilocybin in connection with cognitive behavioral therapy ... that is hard stuff.
Not who heals has right, who the symptom switches off has right.
Hey Borys,
before I tried magic mushrooms for the first time, I used to go out to party and get drunk once or twice a week. After my first psilocybin experience, one of the things that happened was that I drastically reduced my alcohol intake. I realized that there are things that - instead of dumming everything down like alcohol does - actually give you new perspectives.
I suppose this particular experience is not easily reproducable for other people and situations like quitting smoking. It made me more aware of what I was doing and gave me a new perspective on my behaviour. I recently heard about "mindful smoking", i.e. paying full attention to what is actually happening while you smoke, maybe this can have a similar effect like my trip. Also, I could imagine that a guided therapy could have stronger effects when combined with psilocybin, but I'm just guessing.
PS: An additional note if you want to quit smoking: personally, if I see someone smoking, I usually lose interest in that person. I wouldn't consider that person for smalltalk or as a potential friend. If my first impression of you is seeing you smoking, you would need a while to recover the deficit in respect compared to someone I met without a cigarette in his/her mouth. I realize this is probably a really stupid way to judge people, but it might be what kept me from starting to smoke in my teenage years, even though there are a lot of smokers in my family.
