Hi tkoh, thank you!
Yes that's right var. Sonya and var. Sophia, named after my love Sonya, and her European namesake Sophia. Which meaning is "wisdom". I couldn't think of 2 better names that related to our all seeing Diviners Sage any better. smile.gif

It's been over 3 weeks now since they sprouted

It would be interesting to see how the square stem and leaves develop. Please keep supplying us with weekly pics. wub.gif

So, how come you are growing them in the same pot as the parent plants and so close together?

Hi hand,
I was just thinking the same thing the other day about the square stems and when they'll start showing, it will be interesting and yes I will update their progress.

unsure.gif As for planting them together in that pot, I did for several reasons but mostly out of convenience. I had recently planted some rooted mother clones and there was a large open spot in the middle of the pot where there were no plants.

That's what gave me the idea to plant the seeds that I had. I thought it would be a nice open well protected place for the seeds to sprout and there would be little chance of them drying out.
That is, if they sprouted at all because I had low expectations that 1 let alone 2 of the seeds would germinate because of the research I had read about very low salvia d germination rates. I was quite shocked when I saw that both seeds had germinated!

I think it might be beneficial for the seedlings to be with their mother, maybe they know through some chemical reaction that they are where they should be, like in a safe familiar place with the same conditions and soil composition as when it was propagated. In the wild I would image the same situation, the seeds would fall from the plant and start growing under the mother plants.

My girlfriend says that some trees act that way, where the mother will protect their young saplings by ensuring the young ones water by sending out roots to them. I don't really know, but I'm not dismissing any theory right now on the conditions that may have aided in the 100% germination rate.

I won't try to separate them to risk damaging them so hopefully they will both get along until I can safely take cuttings from them smile.gif

If I knew that both would have sprouted, I may have planted them in separate pots. But then maybe I wouldn't have had the same results?

Cheers!

You may be more right than you realize. This interesting documentary deals with this subject, among others. Although I don't think the same complex structures as in a forest apply to a flowerpot on a windowsill, there may still be some connections.

That was a very interesting show, I wonder if there is sibling recognition, as well as mother nurturing going on within that pot!?!

Thanks a lot for posting that video, hand. I really appreciate it. It does make me think the combination of events that occurred with the mother, seeds and seedlings is more important than first thought.

Again, great video smile.gif

Wow, great work!
I thought this is almost impossible.
Two sprouds out of two? Perhaps we have got much more strains than we thought.

I'm very curious about the the growth.
Please keep us updated!

Yes I was fortunate enough to get 100% germination! hopefully it's an indication of the mothers fertility.

Thank you When for your updates.
Salvia D. var. Sophia looks like she is building that square stem right now. Or it is just a shade?

With a little imagination one can see the characteristic leave shape already. smile.gif

Thank you for taking the time and posting your little project here. I already have been quite close to getting seeds myself as you can see in my grow report. You inspire me to try again quite soon. bye.gif

Hey hand,
You're very welcome, I encourage you to try for seeds. I think with more of us trying there will be more success.

I have even more good news! I have acquired more seeds but this time from another grower who hand pollinates. I have 2 more seedlings to share with everyone!
