Hello,
I was wondering if it is possible to heat acetone (with salvorin dissolved) to make it evaporate. I saw somewhere that heating it could possibly destroy salvorin in solution. Is it true ?
Thank You

why, do you want to vaporate it, it will do it at roomtemperature.
If you want it faster, let some sunlight on it.But you can heat aceton to 70-80 celsius, then it will be gone faster.I don't know if the salvinorin will be destroyed, i think partly.

I wanna heat it up because I want to speed up the evaporation process. I don't let it on sunlight because UV light destroy salvorin in solution. Can someone give me a clear answer on if yes or no it destroy somes ?
P.S. Acetone boils at 56 celcius so I won't heat it up to more than 60 celcius.
Thank You

I always make my Salvia-Extracts with a "soxhlet-extraktor"(german), the acetone which extracts the salvia is very hot(>40°C I think), and my extracts are always very good, so i don't think that a lot of Salvinorn A will be destroyed.
Sorry for my bad english..

greetings

Ramses

I suppose it wont do any harm. U could fill your sink with hot water and put the bowl with the aceton in it, that should work. Make sure you don't heat it untill it boils, some salvinorin may get lost in that case (because it vaporizes together with the aceton).

Thanks for all the answers ! No, I won't make it boil but I'll put it around 40-50 celcius.

My goal is to get the acetone back by condensing. But it never works... I have 2 erlenmeyers and tubing. Someone have ideas ?
Thanks

Well if you want to get the acetone back, i think you will need a distillation bridge. Otherwise too much water (humidity) gets mixed in.

I also get back the acetone by condensing, like rob-n said. it is very easy and works good, but you should use "boil stones".

Careful with the hot acetone. It´s highly flammable at room temperature, if you guys are not careful enough you gonna smell like KFC.

Ok ! Ramses, are you using aquarium air stones ? (bublers). I already have a condenser at home so I will try it. The problem is, the tube to carry the air to the air stone reacts with acetone and become very very soft.

I dont mean a stone to make the acetone boil faster at room temperature, but a stone to make it boil faster at 50-60°C, "Siedesteinchen" in german. If you dont you them, the acetone would splash in the soxhlet-extractor and its had to make a good extract.

But If the acetone boils, you don't loose any salvorin ?

No, acetone boils at ~ 56° C. If you smoke your salvia trough a bong, you heat the leaf material up to 400° C.
And it still works, doesn´t it?
I do not think, you will loose any salvinorin, it is simply not hot enough.

I think so too. I´m heating my aceton-extract until it boils (in a water bath). But _be careful_! It´s very dangerous. You shouldn´t have to much of it in there, and you shouldn´t have any fire near the place, you´re working at.
